whatcha makin' now?

Jasmine and Rex - finally tired!
I am making myself ready for a nap, like these puppies here we've been watching. I took them to the dog park this evening, as I have been every evening since they've been here, and this evening, they went swimming! yes! I put on some board shorts, got in the water, and had them follow me. They did really well and Jasmine seems to like swimming better than chasing other dogs on land. Rex was just glad to catch up with me. He likes land better. I wish they would be as tired as me.

now I know what new parents go through. God bless you all. now go take a nap.

I like how you can see the solder in the wire, and how you can see the change in color from the black to yellow

and Rogue says 'hey'.

whatcha makin' now?

Finished up some earrings over the weekend, in between slobber control and refereeing cat/dog encounters. I am well pleased with how these turned out. These are made from 16 gauge copper wire, (even the ear wires), and colored washers I found at skycraft.  I did NOT put these in the pickle after soldering, I put the whole thing in the tumbler to clean up, washers included. I only tumbled them for a few minutes, as I wasn't sure how the washers would react to the tumbling. They came through like a champ and maintained their colors! woot! woot!

I always test out my jewelry first, before giving as a gift or selling, just to make sure that the design works well and there aren't any flaws in the design or improvements that can be made. Call it my own R & D. I found the 16 gauge wire is too large for pierced ears, unless, of course, you are trying to open up your ears to put those large disks in them. I am not, as I believe most of my friends/customers are not as well. I tried using 20 gauge wire and that was just too thin and looked too small. I'll go with 18 gauge, so I'll need to replace these wires before they go in the shop.  I'll send some of these to The Artistic Hand as well, as these type designs do well there.

There's just something about soldering that I just love. Watching the changing of metal color, knowing that metal color that tells me at just the right time to add the solder, and watching it all meld together, it is just SO COOL!  I'm such a geek when I get ready to solder, I always end up sounding like these guys:

It's just so stupid, but funny.

wolfie says hey
Whew! holy cow! I have never been happy to see a weekend over, but this one was it! We dog sat for Nate's sister and that was an adventure! 2 dogs, ages roughly 3 and 2.5, the younger one all full of energy and the older one just silly. They were up half one night barking at god knows what, and my poor cats didn't know what to think of the dern things (there was lots of growling and snarling from the cats, along with some claw swipes at the rear ends of dogs). Both mornings I took the dogs to our local dog park that has a lake and spent a minimum 1.5 hours there in order to occupy their time and (hopefully) wear them out. Yeah, that didn't work out so much. They were tired on the way home, and at home, but that was short lived.  Needless to say we were tired for most of the weekend trying to keep the slobber throughout the house to a minimum. I'm glad to do it for her, nevertheless, as dog sitting can be expensive, and I don't always trust those places.

This is the devils backbone near the front door. I love these plants. So interesting to look at, and they can be so colorful. I hope your weekend was restful. Check out what everyone else is doing:

bench saturday

So...Nate tells me that I need to clean up my bench.

I look at him, stunned and astounded, and I say,

but baby, this *IS* clean.

I'm sure most of you can relate. You look at your work area and think, 'how did it get this messy?', then proceed to clean, organize, file, etc., and you're done and proud of yourself and someone comes along and says 'looks better. it's getting there!'
Huh? what? have they not been paying attention? These are also the same people that make those comments, and have desks that look like this:

 uh huh. see? gotcha.
tell me my desk is 'getting there'

I always feel better once everything is cleaned and organized, and get rid of stuff that doesn't work for me anymore. I just finished a bunch of soldering and it's all in the tumbler now. Can't wait to show you! Now I need to hammer out some ear wires!

Do you have a cleaning ritual? A certain daily/weekly/monthly schedule? Do you always stick to it? Or do you wait until you are exasperated before starting?

happy weekend!

quote of the day

This is just so true, and very cool.  This is like one of those things that you do every day that scares you. Dead ends and dark alleys can be scary, but full of interesting things too.
