cleaning up

so my mom and sister were visiting this past week, and now it's cleanup time. You know, that time when you get your house back in order after people came to visit. I worked on a couple things for my mom and sister while they were here, and now my bench is a mess. Well, it's usually a mess, but not this big of a mess. I try to keep it organized, otherwise I get all frustrated that I can't find what I was looking for. I enjoy soldering (fire! fire! heh heh! fire is cool...) It's fun to see it change color and watch the solder flow and meld into the metal.

can't really tell from this picture, but the color was changing.

more macro photos. Nate loves that camera.

remember to always use pliers folks! burning flesh smells worse than polishing compound. and hurts like hell too.

going for the third hand. love the glasses.

so how does your bench/work table look? a mess? organized chaos? just getting there?

fun with cat feet

Wolfie is a camera hog. I was playing with the macro lens the other day, taking some photos of some more bracelets made a la 7000bracelets style, and she wanted to show her love, so she got in the photo.

Such a silly girl

guess..

where we were yesterday?

no, I didn't ride this, but it looked really cool.

mom; in front of me; me, and sister, waiting in line. lots of lines. but not long lines. not a bad day for waiting in line.

not true snow

on the way to a line

it was an adventurous day

I would have loved a dip in this lake

this one is for my brother, who is a HUGE Simpson's fan

we were at Universal Orlando! Mom and sister got on all the rides they wanted, we ate, laughed (a LOT), and Nate took all the pics with our new macro lens. He's as in love with it as I am. I'll have some good macro pics of the stuff we made this week soon.

hope you are having an adventuresome week!

camera photo

Nate was having fun playing with the camera the other day while mom and sister were here. The lighting is not so good, but a damn funny picture. We've been having fun laughing and playing cards and eating and taking naps. LOTS of naps. It's all good. More photos to come.

quote o' the day - for Earth Day

I pray for this every day. Here is to a promise of a more tolerant, compassionate, understanding, peaceful new day. I'm riding my bike to work, so I need to get ready. Have a great weekend!

20 April 2011

whatcha makin' now?

a mess is what I'm making now and wishing I was here hanging from the tree with Scotty and not doing much of anything.

We have been cleaning up the house getting ready for a visit from my mom and sister on friday, so many other things have gone by the wayside. Besides that, when I was vacuuming last night, I sucked up the 'E' key in the vacuum. got it back, but in my haste to reattach it, I broke off the part of it that makes the key pop back up, so now whn I typ if I don't hit th 'e' ky hard nough, this is what my typing looks lik. no ''. w hav lots of kyboards around hr, so I'll s if i can find anothr on to rplac th ky. Its kind of annoying to have to hit one ky so hard all th time. It doesn't help that it's one of th most used letters in th English language.

They'll be here for a week, so I'll be posting intermittently. Mom loves jewelry, so I'll catch you up on what we end up making, because inevitably we'll end up making something.

Have a great week, don't forget to celebrate Earth Day friday by doing something earthy, and don't lose your 'E' key.

Thank you!

kissy face for you!
A big thank you to everyone that has visited my blog during the 7000 bracelets for hope blog hop! This has been great! I've had kind of a tiring week, with my friend's husband dying and an important party for my dear friend's daughter, so I have not made it to everyone's blog. I will get to you all this week, I promise. It's always exciting to see what everyone has made. I get such inspiration from so many other people, it's awesome.

I hope you have had as much fun as I have participating in this worthy project. Enjoy the blog hop and have a great week!

7000k bracelets for hope reveal

So here is the blue stash 'o beads. Lots of blue here. I have a cleaning cloth I use to keep the beads on the table when I'm working, and they all kinda matched. really matchy matchy and almost hurts my eyes all this blue.

Here I am trying to focus on what I'm doing and my man decides to take a picture to test his lens. Why he always takes a picture of the reddest side of my face, I don't know.

and Voila! here it is! I have an affinity for all things french, and I've been keeping up on my practice so that when I move there one day I'll be proficient enough to speak, read, and write it. I used some sterling silver extreme flex wire from softflex, some of their crimp tubes, and a sterling silver clasp.

I can't wait for my macro lens!

Check out what everyone else made for this good cause, and thanks to Lori from Pretty Things for putting this all together:

15 April 2011

quote o' the day

For my very dear friend who's husband recently died of cancer.

I know it's hard to believe this now, this quote, but I also believe that it's true. And 'okay' means different things to different people. It doesn't always mean sunshine and flowers, and we're all shiny happy people again. It can mean that this person is finally out of pain, as much as we are in it. It can mean that you got to spend 30 years with the love of your life; most people aren't that lucky. It can mean that you have friends that bring you food and keep you company when you need it. It can mean that someday, you know, that you will see them again. I hope this makes sense.

13 April 2011

whatcha makin' now?

So I'm getting ready for the 7k bracelets for hope reveal on saturday. I have more blue beads than I thought. So many pretty shades of blue, and you know I love the butterflies. Not quite sure yet how to put it all together. My usual m.o. is using jewelry wire, but I have some chain I'd like to use up too, and I need to make the bracelet adjustable, so I think I may go that way. So many choices! I probably won't be using much silver wire though, as it's soooo expensive now! more than double what it was last year at this time! holy cow! And copper doesn't go very well with blue (I think) so I don't think I'll be using copper on this one. You never know though, I may put it together and think it looks FAB - O and run with it. Sometimes, you never know how something is truly going to look until you put it all together.

look for the big reveal on saturday, with links to all the other jewelers (I know of) that are participating.

11 April 2011

another groovy cool giveaway!

You know, I just love spreading the good news about giveaways. I have in mind to just post about giveaways for like, a week in a row, maybe more, since there are so many of them out there. It could be my own little challenge to myself, to see how many I could post in one month. But that's for another time...

Cat, over at Olive bites and polarity, is hosting another groovy cool giveaway!  Roberto Sand, over at Bullfrog laserworks, is giving away a custom rubber stamp! How awesome is that? From the looks of his etsy site, this guy is good with the laser, and makes everything to order, nothing on the shelf, he says. If I won, I'd be hard pressed to pick just one type of stamp, you know, like what to put for the stamp. Decisions, decisions. Go to Cat's blog for more info on how to win.

7000 bracelets of hope

I'm very excited/honored/happy to be participating in the 7000 bracelets for hope campaign by the global genes project. This is to help raise awareness of rare diseases, and to show support to the families that are living with rare diseases, disorders, or conditions. 7000 jewelry designers will be taking part in this campaign! I'm working in tandem with Lori over at Pretty Things who has arranged a blog hop for this saturday for the big reveal of all the bracelets.

This is so exciting! To have so many designers from all over the world come together for such a campaign, this is great! I think this is a great way to get motivated, inspired, and also try something new. Very cool.

I'll post my pic on saturday along with the list of participants so we can check out all our wares. I'm extra stoked too 'cuz I'm gonna have my new macro camera lens! woot! woot! I can't wait! yowza! See you then!

06 April 2011

whatcha makin' now?

I like industrial kind of stuff, and you know I've talked about Skycraft here before. You know, the guy store that my man has dragged me to on many many occasions. It's like guys being dragged to the mall with their women, same concept.

Needless to say, since this is a guy store, there's lots of guy stuff, like tools, wire, electronics and such. They also have transistors, like what I've used here:

and recently I found some washers and coils too

I'd thought of painting the washers to make them more colorful, but the paint would just wear off after awhile, and what fun is that? I'll use some some of my fatty rubber cording to make a really cool necklace.

how about you? whatcha makin' now?

03 April 2011
