more rain

just thought I'd let you know that we are getting some big rain here again. We are feeling the effects of storm Gustav. He is close to Cuba now, but we are getting some of the outer bands of rain. It is expected to be like this for the next week. I thought of pulling weeds today, but I thought better of it, since we are just going to get more rain to make more weeds. I may wait until hurricane season is over.

off work today...

I am taking today off work to make it a 4 day weekend, so don't expect too much out of me today...

present for MOM

My mother's birthday is coming up and I need to make her something. It's not always so easy anymore to think of what to get her. She can buy whatever she wants, and has most everything, but I like to send her something. I think I'll make her a bracelet. I'll make sure to post it before I mail it.

This I made some time ago. I like the huge red glass bead, and you know I like rubber cording. This wasn't for MOM, just something fun to make.

still feeling the effects...

so we are still feeling the effects of T.S. Fay today as well as yesterday. We have had some bad storms in the evening; big rain and thunder. I'm told it's going to continue for the next couple days. this photo was taken last week just as Fay was coming our way. The plane looks so tiny and helpless next to the clouds.

Tropical Storm Fay

These are what the clouds look like during a storm or hurricane. I think it's pretty cool.

21 August 2008

Tropical Storm Fay

This little frog was hanging on during all the wind. Today has been the worst day so far. Lots of wind and rain. No flooding here, thankfully, but on the coast there are lots of flooded yards and cars.

20 August 2008

Tropical Storm Fay

Well today it is very windy and rainy. It looks like we are getting the brunt of the storm today. No great damage or problems, so we are fine. So far, I still have to go to work. I am hoping that I don't have school tonight, even though I know I'll have to make it up at the end of the term. Oh well. If you are interested, here is a link to one of our tv stations on the storm coverage. I like this station.

Tropical Storm Fay

These are the clouds that arrive before a storm. They weren't moving too quickly at this point.
The strangest thing is that all the animals are quiet. No birds singing, no squirrels jumping from tree to tree, no lizards even. They know what's going on and they are preparing. You can't tell me that animals are stupid.
We are fine, our animals are fine. We have food, water; animals have food and water. Our phones are charged, we have candles and flashlights, and lots of towels and blankets. John is off today, I have to go in to work. I expect lots of wind and rain is all.

and these are what I use to look at those small jump rings. I think these are really cool looking. I bought them at a goodwill in Ohio. I bought a couple of them. I look like a grandma, but a cool looking grandma.

17 August 2008

twisted chain

This is an up close view of the twisted wire chain I'm putting together. I've already shown you the beginning of it, and here's the work in progress. So far, so good. When it's all put together, I want to solder the jump rings closed. On finished jewelry like this, I don't like open jump rings. To me, it looks better closed.

14 August 2008

end of chain

The end of the chain I use a plain clasp held on by a small split ring. Not fancy, but effective. I like that.

13 August 2008

up close

and here's an up close shot. I like the blue heart. It's the same one I mentioned in a post last week. I think it's very cute!

12 August 2008

This just in...

We interrupt your regularly scheduled to post to bring you this: my magnetic clasps just came in today and I, LOVE, THEM!!! These are not the best photos as I took them under low light, but it gives you an idea. They are sooooo magnetic. I'll post other photos another time. You can get these at fareastjade.com

11 August 2008

heavy duty clasp

The clasp is gold tone heavy duty magnetic. It's great as it will pull away from your neck if it gets caught in something, but keep the chain together so you don't lose all the beads.

10 August 2008

new id chain

I was asked to make an ID chain for a coworker recently. I used some of the new beads that I showed you last week. I really like this one. This is a full view. More views to follow...

09 August 2008

bright colors

so I was messing with my camera today and I tried the setting where it brightened up the colors, it was a vivid setting. I really like it. I think I'm going to take all my jewelry pictures with that from now on. Here's an example of my work ID chain using that setting. Very nice!

and even more glass beads!

and I saved the best for last! I really like this mix. You can find it here. I like the butterflies. There's also a green heart with a black swirl in it with orange dots next to the red fish in the top right corner of this photo. Do you see them?

04 August 2008

more glass beads!

This is a pastel assortment I just got in from Firemountain gems. I like the blue square beads.

03 August 2008

new glass beads!

I just got these in from Firemountain gems. They are pretty cool! I haven't cleaned them, so they look a little dusty, but there are some great sizes in this mix!

02 August 2008

magnetic clasps

I ordered some of these magnetic clasps today from pinkwindow.com. I like how they nest inside, I think it's a bit more secure that way. I use these for the id chains I make. I've posted a picture of mine before. Now I have a couple orders and some great new beads to try out, so I thought I would give it a go.
