bead making

So I was making some lovely things for a very good friend of mine for Christmas, and I thought I'd show what I was doing. Of course, I love the rubber cording, jump rings are a staple, and pliers are a must. The bead board helps too.

Happy Holidays!

I didn't want to leave anyone out.
I am taking a few days off for the holidays. I'm going to enjoy a restful few days eating, drinking, taking Scotty to the park and joining him for some naps. I hope you enjoy a restful holidays as well. I will see you soon.

23 December 2008

Dandelion holiday festival

I was at Dandelion communitea cafe ~ one of my favorite places you know ~ and they had a holiday festival. They always support local arts and small businesses. One guy was juggling, another lady dancing, and some guy taking photos of it all. It was a nice time. The weather was beautiful ~ we won't have a white Christmas here ~ and a good time was had by all.

22 December 2008

more metal

I really need to learn how to weld. I think my beloved knows how. I'll ask him to teach me. I always thought it would be really cool to recycle old metal parts into some postively fabulous piece of sculpture ~ since I like to make stuff and I'm industrious about recycling and I like to think I'm crafty like that ~ and then sell it for thousands of dollars. A new year is on the horizon, I can always dream...

21 December 2008

cast ring

I made this ring back in the day during school. I had such a fun time casting ~ you know I like using the torch, and this was a BIG torch used for casting! ~ and you know I like simple designs, so I had to try this one. I was fooling with my camera today and tried a different setting. I think this turned out pretty good!

20 December 2008

Grandma Party craft bazaar

There will be a Grandma Party craft bazaar tomorrow at Stardust video & coffee, starting @ 10a until the magic hour, whenever that is. I found the information through the Florida Creatives website. You can check the other sites for more information. These are always fun and interesting. Good vibe, cool people.

Etsy Metal

You know, I don't know why it took me so long to find this blog. I really like working with metal, and I really like Etsy, so...DUH! No brainer here...
check it out!

18 December 2008

leaving on a jet plane...

So my beloved is leaving today, yes, on a jet plane, to go mountain climbing in Argentina. In that vein, I thought I'd see what I could find on Argentine jewelry or jewelry designers. As luck would have it, I found Cynthia Del Giudice in my searches. She has a blogger page and lives in Argentina! She has some really beautiful pieces. This photo here shows a patina that she's been working on. She has some very simple designs which are very elegant. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

13 December 2008

Nutcracker Sweets

My very good friends, Kip & Eliza Watson, are putting on their own version of the Nutcracker tomorrow. If you are in the area, come by their studio to watch "Nutcracker Sweets". I won't be performing, lucky you, but I will be there helping out backstage, as always.

11 December 2008

metal inspiration

I'm lucky in that I get to park in a parking deck at work. These are stairs that I take to get to my car. I've always liked them. I like metal art. I think these can be very inspiring.

10 December 2008

jewelry design contest

I've found another jewelry design contest! It looks like Swarovski has an online design tool for a contest they are having. It's been going on for some time, but there is still time to enter! You have until the end of December, so go to their website and get busy!

08 December 2008

Craft Bazaar

So there was a craft bazaar this past saturday which featured local Etsy users showing off their handmade items. I wish I had known about this sooner, so I could have participated. bummer.

06 December 2008

Young Soap

I came across this family of soap makers at the Fringe Festival this past spring. I really like their stuff. Good smelling and not bad prices either! You can check them out at their etsy site here.

04 December 2008

So he also gave me this pendant to restring, if you will. Neat pendant. I have an idea, I'm trying to figure out how to work it. This is a fragile pendant (as I already see chips in it) and I don't want to use wire as that will wear away at it. I always have rubber cording I can use, but I think I'd like to use leather. I'll have to think on it...

03 December 2008

new beads

As I told you the other day, my beloved and I went shopping this past Friday. We went to a local craft store that is going out of business. He spotted these beads and thought they were really cool. The fact that they were on sale was even better. Cool. huh?

01 December 2008

Back to work/start of December

I thought I would start the month of December off with a beautiful photo I took of a sunset at Fort De Soto park. Nice, huh?

29 November 2008

jewelry school

This is James. He was great at soldering and fixing stuff. There is always a need for production repair jewelers.

Happy Thanksgiving!

To everyone domestic and abroad, let's all be Thankful for something today. Just like these turkeys.

26 November 2008

jewelry school

Here's Kimberly and Diana. This day we went to the graduation for someone else in our class who finished before us. This was 2004. Kimberly was such fun in class. She was always laughing and being silly and having a good time. She never took much too seriously, which is a great way to live. Kimberly always came up with the craziest ideas in class. She once made a HUGE belt buckle out of silver in the shape of a haunted house. It turned out great! She even wore it!

25 November 2008

I just found out that Winter Park Tech DOES offer the jewelry making and design class. I'm so glad. I was sad to say that and I didn't want to disappoint anyone, so I'm glad I'm wrong. My apologies.

jewelry school

During my time there, I came up with an idea to have a jewelry competition/sale there. One of the kids in class thought he was the 'king of rings' so I challenged him to put his money where his mouth was. During the month of December, all of us in class set up a table of our wares for all the other students to see and vote on. We had a winner for necklaces, a winner for rings, bracelets, etc. This is one of my friends from class, Alexis. She is very talented. She always came up with some very nice designs, and her execution of the final product was always beautiful.

24 November 2008

jewelry school

This is one of my classmates, Diana. She was very cool too. We had to take pictures the day we were working with the big torch. We were casting this day.

23 November 2008

jewelry school

This is me, back in the day. This was probably 2004. I had such a good time with the torch.

22 November 2008

jewelry school

I was checking to see if Winter Park Tech still offered the jewelry making and repair class that I took years ago, and come to find out, sadly, they don't! (I wonder if it has to do with the passage of Amendment 1). Anyway, I am heartbroken and sad that it is gone, but glad I had the opportunity to attend when I did. In honor of my time there, I'll be posting pictures! yay!
This is/was my teacher, Albert Pagan. He's a very cool guy. We had a lot of fun there.

21 November 2008

quote 'o the day

I always remind myself of this when I don't believe things are going the way I think they should. And as it turns out, the universe is always correct.

16 November 2008

craft wire

I have some of this craft wire. It's good for holding some stuff together, if your fingers can't quite do the trick. or to use with the kids. It's pretty inexpensive and does help out in a pinch. You can find it at one of my favorite s

14 November 2008

quote o' the day

I really like this one. If everyone lived this way, we all would be happier and more peaceful. I say give it a try. You can find this as a magnet here.

12 November 2008

what's in my jewelry box?

This is the collection of stuff I wear most often. Some I've made, some I've bought. It's all very cool.

11 November 2008

fun jewelry

This is my collection of really fun jewelry. Some I've purchased, most has been given to me, by those that love me and thought the jewelry reminded them of me. How cool is that?

10 November 2008

vintage jewelry

This is my collection of vintage jewelry. Some I've found, some were my grandmothers, all are beautiful. I like all the pretty colors...

09 November 2008

yoga outside

We suffer through the heat, humidity and hurricane threatened summers in order to enjoy the beautiful, temperate winters here in Florida, and that's just what I did yesterday. I had yoga in the park. Scotty joined me of course!

08 November 2008

corrections and apologies...

I have referenced Metalcyberspace before in my blog, for jewellry design contests. It's a great site full of helpful and insightful information, not just about contests, but schools, magazines, galleries and events. The lovely lady that hosts that site, Susan Sarantos, an accomplished jeweler in her own right, advises me that Metalcyberspace is written all together as one word. My apologies. I hope this didn't cause too much confusion for you all.

I wonder if this is a self portrait of Susan? It's very cute!

I don't care what your political proclivities are, this is a very important election, whichever way it goes. Get out and vote, if you haven't already.

03 November 2008

widget chain

and here's the chain I made from it. It actually clasps at the front of the chain. I used a 5mm wide black rubber cord for the bracelet and chain, and I didn't want to break up the rubber cording, as I like it to be one piece. So as you can see in the photo, the clasp, when wearing it, is on the left side of the body.

02 November 2008

macro widget view

He tells me that these are not correctly stamped widgets, so they are not good to send out for distribution. I think they look cool.

01 November 2008

machine widgets

So I got these widgets from someone near and dear to me and I decided to make something from them. (He gave them to me in good faith, so I have to make good on my promise!) I made this bracelet from one of the widgets. I've made a necklace and earrings from them too. I'll post them later.

Apartment Art this weekend!

I just found this arts & crafts show this Sunday from 11a-5p @ Austin Coffee & Film in tony Winter Park, Florida. There will be crafters and musicians, treats and sweets! Jewelers too! Check out their myspace page if you can't make it. The weather has been tony too, so make it if you can!

26 October 2008

pink ribbon

I met a woman at work the other day who works with our local cancer center and she loved my ID lanyard that I made for myself, and she asked if I would be willing to make some for their shop, as a donation and a way to promote myself. I thought that would be a great idea! Since my grandmother died of breast cancer, this would be a way to recognize Grandma and do something great too! I am awaiting to hear back from her regarding the details, but I will keep you posted.

24 October 2008

VegFest Orlando 2008!

I know this doesn't have anything to do with jewelry, but this is a cool vegetarian/vegan fest that we have every year here. I looked for something to do with jewelry on their site, but I couldn't find anything. Nonetheless, it's a good thing to do today.

20 October 2008

Obama in Orlando

Yeah, I know this isn't the greatest photo, but this is as close as I could get. Obama was downtown tonight, and since I work downtown, it wasn't that far for me to go. There were thousands of people there, the best people watching in a long time. Very cool vibe. If you squint, or blow up the photo, you can see him...

new stuff

Ok, so I made some more earrings similar to what I've already posted this week. It's too late to take any good photos, so you'll just have to wait in suspense until later this week. Can you hold out that long? I appreciate your patience, and thank you for your support.

12 October 2008

blue wire earrings

I'm going to make a necklace to go with these. This will be a gift for a friend at work. She wears these kind of earrings a lot. It looks good on her.

06 October 2008

ideas from nature

So I've been looking for some inspiration lately and I like to be outside, so I thought I would try taking some pictures of interesting things in nature that I can work with. I like the shape of this tree. I thought of cutting this from a pattern into a silver sheet, just to see what comes out.

04 October 2008

slacker poster

I have been such a slacker lately about posting. I think all this great cooler weather lately has been keeping me outdoors and not at my bench. We can actually have the windows open and let the house air out. It's great. We'll have the windows open until April of next year, unless it drops to the 40's, which it has done before. I'm not complaining mind you, we just don't get it very often, thankfully. See, this is why we tolerate the heat, humidity and hurricanes in the summertime, to enjoy the temperate weather in the winters. We stay inside in the summer, and go outside in the winters. Just the opposite of the northerners.
This is a photo from my front yard, which I was working in today. My dog was digging holes, helping me dig up some roots that need to come out. Such a good dog. I really like my yard, so I've been enjoying it lately. I'll be back to regular self shortly...

30 September 2008

I made this back in the day in jewelry school. I kind of like it for my icon. I even made a mold of it for future use!
